The Organized Outlaw
Introductions are one of my least favorite things to write. I’ve put together thousands of them for classes or whatever other random reasons and they always make me cringe. It’s awkward to try and put yourself into words. I often feel like it’s a vain task. Do people even care about what makes me, me? Well for those of you who are interested here’s what I find important to note about myself.
My name is Alyssa Esquivel. I’m a mother to two of the most handsome and strange little boys, Waylon & Quanah. They’re 18 months apart on purpose (I obviously didn’t care about my sanity) and the most wonderful handful. I am a devoted wife to my favorite partner in crime and parenthood. His name is Angel but most people tell me I’m the saint for putting up with his wild antics. We have two pain in the ass but loyal and cuddly pups, an Australian Cattle Dog mix and an on paper Boxer mix (his other side belongs to one of those discriminated dog breeds but our vets hooked us up). My family is my favorite and most important part of my life.
Oddly enough I do have an identity outside of them though. I have a B.A. in Media Studies with a minor in Spanish (I’m semi-fluent, it comes and goes with my use of it). I have an M.A. in English with a concentration in Multicultural and Transnational Literature. Unsurprisingly based on my choice of studies, I love books and film. I know a little bit about a lot of things, which makes me great at random trivia. I’m a seasoned traveler, both pre- and post-kids. I’m obsessed with food, coffee, and water (for hydration and recreation). Also a huge fan of alcohol, however, these days as I attempt to be a semi-responsible adult I’m more in it for the craft than the buzz.
I was born and bred in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Go Heels! For the past 4 (ish) years I’ve been living in Surf City, North Carolina growing our little family. A part of my heart will forever belong to that little beach town. As I start this blog we’ve just moved our gang out to Okinawa, Japan and that’s where this new adventure begins. Hope you enjoy the ride with us.
